The worst part of email is how final it is. Once you click send, it’s out of your hands and in someone’s inbox. I can’t tell you how many times I have wanted to kick myself for allowing a message to go out with a silly error, whether it be a missing subject line, or a forgotten attachment. It happens to the best of us.
However, thanks to Gmail, there’s hope for even the worst of us over-eager senders!
Gmail’s Undo Send is a super handy tool. It is Gmail’s “Oops” button. Undo Send has been around for quite some time, but, it was limited to a 5 second window of time. You would have to catch your mistake really quickly to actually put it to any use. But now it’s been improved!
The Undo Send button can now be set for 30 seconds so it’s really easy to catch all your silly mistakes. It has saved me a couple times already. Mistakes can now be caught with ample time and save you from all types of email shame.
Here’s how to set up your own “Oops” button:
Google Labs is where you will find this feature. You will need to click the green button, between your email and Settings options in the top right corner. This picture will help you find that:
Once you click the green Google Labs button you will be taken to a page filled with add-ons for Gmail. Some are really handy tools just like the Undo Send Button, while others are simply for aesthetics or just plain fun.

You will find that Undo Send is towards the bottom. Once you navigate to it you will find an option to “enable” it. It will look like this:

Once Undo Send is enabled, you will need to scroll to the bottom and click “Save Changes.”
Now that you have it set, it will default to a 10 second window of time. However, if you wish to increase the time to undo, you will need to click “Settings” button next to the green symbol you clicked before and go to the “General” tab. You will find the options to change the time frame to 5, 10, 20, and 30 second increments. Once you make that change you will want to scroll down and click “Save Changes.”
There you have it! The quick fix to a blundered email, Google’s Undo Send is a great uh-oh moment preventer and a must have for everyone!
