This guide will help explain all the most common types of video and
audio cables you will encounter in a home theater setting, what the
difference is between all of them, and how each are best utilized.
VIDEO:

Coaxial Video [RF] :
the most basic of video cables, and was once
(before composite video) the most predominant cable format. Coaxial
cables carry a video and audio signal at the same time and are most
commonly used with antenna’s and cable TV. They can also be used to
connect some older VCRs and video game systems.

Composite Video:
The most common video cable. Most commonly
referred to as “the yellow one”. Almost every home theater device
has this basic connection coupled with RCA audio (red and white, see
below). Composite itself only carries a video signal and by todays
standards, is the worst quality video signal after coaxial video.
Only use this connection if it is the ONLY output available on a
particular device.
