Skype is awesome; in fact I use it every day! With Skype’s super intuitive user-interface it’s really easy to conduct both video and regular text chat. Both are great for a working environment, or just fun with friends, but something that has certainly been lacking is the ability to video chat with a group of people. Skype currently features the ability to conduct a regular text based chat with multiple folks, so why not have the same feature with video chat? Well that’s where Skype beta 5.0 comes in.

In Skype’s current beta build 5.0, you can make up to 10-way group video calls. In addition to the introduction of group video calling Skype has re-designed the call view. The new call view is focused on the ongoing call and takes away all possible disturbing factors, like other conversations.

Also new with Skype Beta 5.0 are some improvements to browser plugins. Performance on some websites has been less than great and hopefully will be solved with these fixes. One such fix is that Skype will do a much better job of recognizing real phone numbers as opposed to mistaking certain strings of numbers found on certain sites.

Every one of these improvements to Skype is a welcome change to me. I have been playing around with Skype’s Beta 5.0 build and I love it! Download it for Windows HERE to see for yourself!
