Well, it’s been about two weeks since we first met and I haven’t yet properly introduced myself. Since you’ll probably be hearing from me for a while, I’d like to take a moment to tell you a bit about myself.
My name is Danielle, and I’m the new Make It Work resident blogger.
I’m the most recent addition to the Make It Work team, and I’m here to share relevant, useful, interesting, and sometimes funny stories. As a Generation-Y blogger, I will give you my un-biased take on the latest and greatest gadgets and technology. You should know that I’m not afraid to call B.S. on something I don’t believe in, and I won’t be accepting bribes to review electronics anytime soon (but feel free to send free stuff for me to positively review to the Make It Work headquarters). One of my goals for this blog is to give you an easy to understand summary of current products and innovations, without too much sugar coating.
Here are a few of my current favorite technology-related things, check them out if you haven’t already.
BuckyBalls: Unless you’ve played with them you have no idea how cool these little magnets are. I would say they’re fun for all ages, since my dad and grandma are also fans, but they should be kept away from kids who tend to put things in their mouth.

After discovering these at my cousin’s house, I had to have them. I wanted to buy two packages initially, but for $29.99 a pack, that seemed a little excessive. You can probably find them on Ebay for much less, or if you’re not concerned about the actual brand, imitations are also more affordable.
I got mine from ThinkGeek.com, and aside from losing numerous pieces throughout the week, I didn’t regret the purchase one bit.
iPad: This one sounds fairly obvious I’m sure, but I actually received mine as a gift; otherwise, I probably wouldn’t have purchased one. If you’ve been following my posts at all for the last couple weeks, you know that Can Knockdown is my favorite game/addiction. To be perfectly honest, I wasn’t even sure I was going to like the iPad at first; I already have a MacBook Pro, iPod and iPhone. However, as soon as I began to play with the iPad, I was sold. Whether I’m laying in bed watching Family Guy on Netflix’s instant, or listening to the latest NPR podcast on the couch, my iPad has become one of my most functional toys.
Note: I’m also very fond of my iPod Nano, perfect for running and filming the occasional random tight-rope walker along the beach.
Netflix: I briefly mentioned this above, but the “watch instantly” selection on Netflix has been great so far. Aside from helping me catch up on Weeds and Southpark, Netflix has a huge selection of instant movies, documentaries and comedy specials. This is a much better deal than cable, especially if you want to skip commercials.
Another great thing about Netfix is the ability to stream programming through your TV. We have a Roku box at my house, but you can also try Apple TV, Boxee or Google TV. I strongly recommend investing in one of these, and if you need some help, this site has a nice comparison of features.
