You can’t find the ringtone you want…or at least the part a song or sound that you like.
You don’t want to spend the money buying a software program that helps you make ringtones…You shouldn’t have to. Well, fret no more! Here is an EASY step-by-step guide to becoming an iTunes Ringtone Producer!
*NOTE: Depending on which version of iTunes you have, certain steps will differ. The iTunes 9.0 version and up changes will be address inside [brackets].




Voila! You are now an iPhone Ringtone Producer!

Thank you for these instructions! I was waiting to buy Garageband to make a ringtone but now I don't need it! One note, after I created the ringtone I then had to go back and repeat steps 5-9 and change the start time back to 0:00 and Stop time to the end time of the song so that I had the full length song in my iTunes library.
Looks like the latest version of iTunes makes things a bit easier (for once!) in that you can just select the track(s) you want, then you can go straight ahead and select “convert to AAC” and iTunes will automatically covert the first 40secs of a track so you can then jump to step 11 in the above instructions.
However, should you wish to start a ringtone part-way into a song you will have to follow all the above steps.
