What do you do with old computers or phones after they’ve stopped working or been replaced? Most of my old computers, batteries, cell phones, and various electronics end up tucked away in a drawer, not to be seen again until I move to start a massive cleaning overhaul.

On a recent visit to my Post Office, I found a quick and easy solution.

In select Post Offices, customers can get free mail-back envelopes for recycling inkjet cartridges, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras and other small electronics. We have a local program here in Santa Barbara, and you can check other locations by clicking the link below.

A growing number of Post Offices have secure recycling containers for use by customers with PO boxes. View the current list of locations.

TechSoup
TechSoup has compiled a comprehensive body of information to promote computer recycling and reuse. This site provides resources for those who would like to donate hardware, those who would like to acquire recycled hardware, and refurbishers.
Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC)
RBRC can help you recycle portable rechargeable batteries commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras, and remote control toys. Search for collection sites by zip code.
