Plenty of products claim to be “green” nowadays, but who is telling the truth? Without a Ph.D it’s tough to tell. That’s where the GoodGuide comes in, a *free* mobile app that provides information about the environmental impact of consumer products with an easy to understand rating.
How it works: GoodGuide rates how “good” consumer products are, based on three categories – Health, Environment and Society. The higher the rating, the safer, healthier and greener the product. Users can search for ratings by product name, category (Food, Personal Care, Toys, etc.), brand or the UPC code (numbers associated with barcode). With the latest update you can even use your iPhone to scan the product barcode to generate a rating. Pretty cool stuff.
The GoodGuide mobile database has information for over 60,000 products, and more importantly provides instant access to smarter, greener decision making. You can create “Favorite” and “Avoid” lists, as well as find prices for products on Amazon.com, all with one application.
The GoodGuide website, named one of the Top 100 Web Sites of 2009 by PC Magazine, provides even more great information for living a “greener” life, including a guide to buying organic food that breaks down the different USDA Organic Levels.
Download the GoodGuide in the App Store today to start becoming more environmentally aware when you shop. And if you don’t have an iPhone, use the GoodGuide Text Messaging Application.
