Earlier this week we introduced you to the one of a kind Lego Printer: a device made by Legos, a felt tip pen, and lots of computer circuitry. While that’s good for a nice laugh and a flashback to your childhood, today I am here to show you a new kind of printer, except this one will change the lives of everyone.
Recent combined efforts between Invetech (an engineering company) and Organovo (a regenerative medicine company) have provided the first models of their new 3D Bio Printer. Just like a normal printer, which maps out images dot-by-dot, this printer uses the same idea. Except rather than using ink on a piece of paper, the Bio Printer uses synthesized human cells, and assembles them one-by-one to form tissues used to create organs, veins, and skin.
One of my clients has severely limited dexterity which makes it challenging for him to control the computer. He had previously been using a trackball mouse, but with extreme difficulty. On a previous appointment I showed him how he could use the On-Screen Keyboard instead of a regular keyboard to accommodate his limitation.
As you may have noticed, your Windows operating system is full of beeps and blips. All the way from error messages to log in sounds, your PC is a soundboard of samples. This creative musician, who goes by his online identity of “SomethingUnreal” took these samples as they were and created a masterpiece!
