The “Back to the Mac” event that began at 10am this morning was great. Many new products and software features were announced. Here’s part one of the breakdown for today’s event:
iPhoto ‘11
iLife’s newest update was announced, iLife ‘11. One of the signature features of the iLife suite, iPhoto received a lot of love, with a great makeover. iPhoto ‘11 features more full-screen options for photos and places, more album themes, and the ability to order printed items.
iLife ‘11 also features great new ways to share socially. Now you can send HTML e-mails of your photos with all your photographs organized and designed directly from iPhoto. Apple also added a new social sharing panel that shows where you have shared your photos via social networks. iLife suite features numerous tweaks and redesigns all of which will be included in any new Mac purchased and available for a reasonable $49 for existing Mac owners.
Mac App Store
In the newly announced Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, Apple will be bringing one of the strongest features from its iOS devices to the Mac. This means that Macs will be getting an App store as well.
Developers can begin submitting Apps this November and the Mac App Store will be available for download within 90 days on Snow Leopard. This will bring the strongest iOS feature to the Mac, a great move on Apple’s part.
FaceTime for Mac
The same amazing features for video calling on your iPhone or iPod Touch are now available on the Mac! Now you can make calls to other Macs or to any of the 4 million people sporting iPhones or iPod Touches. Plus if you didn’t think it could get any cooler, you can participate in the beta later today! Currently it is not up, but it should be there by the end of the day. So stay tuned!
